To 40-50m tall if left unbonsaid. Often used for niwaki pruning instead of ~thunbergii as it’s much faster and almost indistinguishable for many years. Dark brown or almost black bark. The mature crown is domed with spreading ascending branches. There are numerous taxa of the species as different botanists re-classify- many of these overlap each other.
