A rare specie that becomes a small tree. It’s native to central Mexico(South Zacatecas), where it only occurs on a single mountain (Cerro Pinones) at the southern end of Sierra de Morones near Juchipila. The entire population of trees is thought less than 2,500. Naturally, it grows at elevations of 1800-2400m on rocky sandstone or limestone with good annual rainfall. The needles are 7-13cm long, quite glaucous. Massive seed cones on trees of the age17-25x10-15cm and up to 2kg. Annual growth is about 10cm during first 10yrs.
