Abies nebrodensis, Sicilian fir, 25-30cm USDA H7-hardy.
The rarest of all European firs, almost extinct in the wild with 25no. trees still standing. Grows to a small tree(rarely over 15m), at altitudes of @1500m in Monti Nebrodi, Monte Scalane, Polizzi Generosa, Siciliy. The tree becomes a broadly conical crown with densely arranged needles (15-20mm long) pointing upwards and outwards. The needles are bright lustrous green above, with two greenish white stomatal bands beneath.
